Forgotten Island: 3 Things We Learned from the Premiere

When DreamWorks Animation's latest feature hit cinemas across the Philippines on September 23, 2026, it didn't just open—it dominated. Grossing over 97 million Philippine pesos during its first weekend, "Forgotten Island" immediately set a new benchmark for the studio's local releases and held the number one spot at the box office for two consecutive weeks. Much like the high-stakes entertainment we appreciate here at Panalo999, the anticipation for this animated feature was palpable from the moment the promotional purple carpet rolled out in late August, bringing an eager audience face-to-face with the creative minds behind the spectacle.

1. A Visual Identity That Demands Attention

The film's vibrant art direction serves as the primary hook for viewers. From the first moments of the trailer, the aesthetic captures a weird but undeniably lively environment, populated by colorful, strange creatures. This unique visual approach sets the stage for a fast-paced adventure that immediately instills a sense of mystery. Watching the protagonist navigate this unfamiliar terrain feels thrilling because the design perfectly balances peril with a vibrant sense of wonder, making the audience eager to see what hides behind the next vibrant thicket.

2. A Release Built on Star Power and Local Pride

A massive part of the film's success stems from its heavily stacked, culturally resonant cast. The Hollywood premiere at the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art in Los Angeles was a star-studded affair attended by cast members Liza Soberano, H.E.R., Dave Franco, Jo Koy, and Manny Jacinto. Further adding to the international rollout, a Belgian premiere event was hosted just days later, attended by Philippine Ambassador Jaime Victor B. Ledda. Back in the Philippines, local fans gathered for a dedicated block screening at SM Calamba on September 26, proving that the production's deep bench of talent—which also includes Lea Salonga, Dolly de Leon, Jenny Slate, and Ronny Chieng—drew massive communal interest.

3. A Core of Courage and Memory

Beyond the striking visuals and star-studded screenings, the narrative itself grounds the rapid-fire action. Directed and written by Joel Crawford and Januel Mercado, the story follows a protagonist unexpectedly stranded on an unknown landmass. The ensuing struggle for survival gradually uncovers the island's hidden secrets while forcing the main character to re-evaluate their inner self. Maintaining the studio's signature lighthearted humor, the narrative ultimately delivers a heartwarming experience about finding courage, holding onto precious memories, and seeking a true sense of belonging in the most unexpected places.
